Summary

  • What it does: Lets a reporting widget display data outside the viewer's Division and Segment Access Restrictions while still applying the widget's report and widget filters.
  • How it impacts drill-downs: Drill-down results remain limited to the viewer's Data Access Restriction.

When Ignore Data Access Restrictions (Formerly Global Data Access) is turned on, the widget displays data from the full dataset and ignores the viewer's Division Access Restriction and Segment Access Restriction. Only System Administrators can enable this setting for a reporting widget.

This setting applies only to Data Access Restrictions. It still works with report filters and widget filters. That means the widget will continue to show data based on its configured filters, even when the viewer would not normally have access to that data through their own restrictions.

If a user opens a drill-down from the widget, the drill-down results will still be limited by that user's Data Access Restriction.

What this means in practice

A user may see totals, averages, or trends in the widget that reflect data outside their normal access scope, as long as that data matches the widget's report and widget filters.

However, when that same user clicks into the widget to view the underlying records, they will only see the records they are allowed to access based on their Data Access Restriction.

Example

A reporting widget is filtered by Country is NL.

A user has a Data Access Restriction that limits them to Country is DE.

  • With Ignore Data Access Restrictions turned off, the user would not see NL data in the widget because their access restriction would still apply.
  • With Ignore Data Access Restrictions turned on, the widget ignores the user's access restriction and shows the NL data defined by the widget's filters.
  • If the user clicks into the widget, the drill-down will still be restricted by that user's Data Access Restriction.

Important note

Because the widget can show broader results while drill-downs remain restricted, the numbers in the widget may not match the records a user sees after clicking through. This is expected behavior when Ignore Data Access Restrictions is enabled.
